The Dayton Garden Club held its first Small Standard Flower Show in almost 50 years...Even though they have participated in many district shows, this is the first time in quite awhile they have hosted a show.
The 13 member club chose "Haunted Horticulture" as the name and incorporated many eyes in the staging.
The club also invited the other clubs to participate as well as student judges in the district.
Winners were as follows: Award of Merit: Liesa Logsdon (Dayton) cleome and dahlia, Sue Walker (Sunset Garden Club) with a beautiful red rose; Genevia Andrews (Four Seasons Garden Club) with a creeping raspberry and Donna Taylor (Four Seasons Garden Club) with a Jewell Orchard. The Arboreal Award went to Debbie Shaver for a cedar.
Liesa Logsdon went on to win the Horticulture Excellence with her Dahlia.
The Design awards went to Marilyn Smith (Sunset Garden Club) first in class, Vivian Prevatte (Dayton) first in class; and Debbie Shaver (Dayton) first in class. Debbie went on to win Design Excellence.
There were 187 horticulture exhibits, which after the summer weather was quite a feat.
There were also two educational exhibits; one by Liesa Logsdon on the Cumberland Trail and one on Pumpkins by Anita Prevatte.
Also included in the show was a membership table, where the public could get information on how to join a garden club. The show was held at the Spring City United Methodist Church in Spring City, and the "Let's Do Lunch" women’s group was able to tour the show. The Dayton Garden Club would like to thank all those who participated in making their show a success. |
